Child Language Center's
"Wings on Words (WOW)"
Preschool Program
$697,000
|
|
|
The Child
Language Center and its Wings on Words (WOW) Preschool program provide
critical early intervention programs for preschool children with speech
and language disorders. This program targets the most common
childhood disability (7-10%). The children they serve have normal
hearing and IQ, but great difficulty using oral language to communicate.
Child Language Center's goal: Help them catch up with their peers and be
ready to learn, read, and succeed in school. |
|
In 2008, Angel Charity has
pledged to raise $697,000 for The Child Language Center and WOW to
construct a new Angel Wing at 202 E. Speedway Blvd. The additional
space will more than double the number of children in the early
intervention programs and allow them to offer much needed services: (a)
Taking Flight, a "mommy & me" program for very young 3-year olds for
whom there are serious concerns, (b) part-day enrollment options at the
preschool, and (c) therapy for children not enrolled at WOW.

Southern Arizona
Children's Advocacy Center
Clinical Services Program - Medical Suite
$53,315
|
|
|
The Southern
Arizona Children's Advocacy Center exists as a safe and child-sensitive
place where child victims tell their story of abuse, receive a medical
evaluation, and begin to heal. Each year, approximately 1,200
children are seen at the Children's Advocacy Center, and that number is
expected to increase in future years. The mission of Southern
Arizona Children's Advocacy Center is to protect and support children
through a coordinated response to child maltreatment that includes
intervention, assessment, and prevention. |
|
In 2008, Angel Charity has pledged to
raise $53,315 to furnish and equip the new medical services suite in the
new Children's Advocacy Center. The furnishings and equipment will
enable the center personnel to ensure the children's health and safety,
and minimize their feelings of trauma and discomfort.

Community Food Bank
Snak Paks for Kids Program
$50,000
|
|
|
The Community
Food Bank's Snak Paks for Kids Program targets children who are at risk
of chronic hunger stress. These children may eat a healthy
breakfast and lunch at school during the week, but on the weekend, they
may have nothing to eat at home. These children are identified on
a case-by-case basis by school personnel such as school nurses,
counselors, teachers, and family liaisons. |
|
In 2008, Angel Charity has pledged to
raise $50,000 to open five new school sites for the Snak Paks for Kids
nutrition program. The funding effectively doubles the program's
outreach from 540 to nearly 1,000 children. With this program the
Community Food Bank has a chance to avoid the life-long impact of poor
nutrition on children, their families, and ultimately, the community. |
