Tu Nidito Children

& Family Services

"Un Nidito De Angeles" or "The Angels Nest"

$650,000

More than 10 years ago, Tu Nidito filled a need in our community by building a successful non-profit agency dedicated to supporting children impacted by serious illness and death.  Over the past 10 years, Tu Nidito has served the needs of our community's children and has experienced phenomenal growth.  In 2005, Tu Nidito cared for 800 children.  Today they remain the only agency in Arizona dedicated to providing a comprehensive continuum of child-centered care to children who have a life-threatening illness or children grieving the loss of a loved one.

In 2006, Angel Charity gave $650,000 to Tu Nidito to expand their current 3,808 square foot home to include the addition of a 1,823 square foot building (to be called "Un Nidito De Angeles" or "The Angels Nest"), a new parking lot, expanded wall, outdoor lighting, and moving the playground.  This allowed for five support group rooms (there are two currently), a designated teen room, a library, an art room, two private counseling rooms (currently there are none), a quiet room, and space for additional direct care staff.  The project will allow Tu Nidito to offer: support groups for children of all ages on the same night, a separate group for children whose parent completed suicide or was a victim of homicide, additional Spanish speaking groups, and adequate space for more clients to attend groups and receive individual support.  Tu Nidito will be able to grow their current client base by 402 children a year while providing even better, more targeted services.

Educational Enrichment Foundation

Focus On Vision Program

$42,750

The mission of the Educational Enrichment Foundation (EEF) is to provide resources to expand and enrich student learning in the Tucson Unified School District.  The Focus on Vision Program was established in the 1998-99 school year in response to the many requests EEF received to provide funds for eye exams and eyeglasses for students who had no insurance and whose families could not pay for these services.  The beneficiary students - Pre-K through 12 - are children of low income families who qualify for the free or reduced-fee lunch program.

In 2006, Angel Charity raised $42,750 to help grow the Focus on Vision Program to at least 475 children by the 2007-08 school year.  The Focus on Vision Program is very user-friendly; a child in need of a new pair of glasses has them within a week of the referral.  The positive impact that this service has on the lives of children is tremendous.
