La Paloma

Family Services, Inc.

Amparo de los Angeles

La Paloma Family Services, Inc. provides residential group home services to adolescents and babies.  These homes provide a safe and secure environment where a young teen mom can learn skills necessary to care for her child as well as build the foundation for her life by finishing school and obtain meaningful employment.  La Paloma's goal is to break the cycle of dependency and abuse by providing young girls with the opportunity to have enough time to develop resources to take effective control of their lives.

In 2002, Angel Charity raised $480,000 for La Paloma to retire the debt of the Blacklidge group home.  This allowed more resources to be put into the children served.   Those resources include education, aftercare assistance with rent and living expenses and follow-up care to provide case management and other support.

Arizona has one of the highest teen pregnancy rates in the country.  This is one of the most underserved populations of children in this state.

Pio Decimo

Angel Children's Learning Center

Pio Decimo is a non-sectarian, multi-purpose neighborhood center that has been providing services to children in the Greater Barrio Santa Rosa for 56 years.  80% of the children in this area live in poverty.  Pio Decimo is a stable community center, providing critical programs that address the priority needs of the children and families they serve.  Services offered include childcare, preschool, after school tutoring and recreation, summer youth programs, evening and weekend programs for youths at risk of dropping out of school, immunization clinics and prevention education health classes.  The Center serves approximately 300 children on a daily basis.

In 2002, Angel also gave $247,271 to Pio Decimo to renovate  existing building space.  This space had structural, safety and security needs that were addressed before it provided an independent, self-contained classroom for kindergartners, a testing and conference room, a children's playground with a play structure, fencing and lighting, and program support rooms including children's bathrooms and a childcare laundry.  The Angel Children's Learning Center expanded program space for children by approximately 30%..
